A three-shirt capsule, three print problems

Vegan Designs

Black, cream and olive tees for a plant-based apparel line — a spot-colour joke, a heavy illustration and a watercolour floral, each printed the way it needed to be.

The brief

Small apparel brands rarely have the volume to run one design at a time, so a capsule arrives as a mixed bag of artwork with wildly different technical needs and one budget covering all of it.

Vegan Designs sent three: a typographic gag, a black-heavy illustration, and a watercolour floral.

What we did

The "V·E·G·A·N" shirt is spot colour — white type with red, blue and yellow dots — screen printed on black, where flat spot colours are at their best and cheapest.

"POWERED BY PLANTS" is a dense line-art gorilla with a single green highlight, printed on cream where the black ink sits directly on the garment with no underbase needed.

The "VEGAN AF." floral is the one that changes method. Soft watercolour edges and a copper geometric frame have no clean spot-colour separation, so it runs as DTF on olive — full colour, soft hand, edges that stay soft instead of stepping.
