Khartoum, in collegiate and in ink

Khartum Designs

Cream and royal tees for a Sudanese heritage brand — varsity type on the front, a dense engraved illustration on the back.

The brief

Heritage brands live and die on the type. "KHARTOUM · SUDAN" set in a collegiate slab is doing the same job as a university name across a chest, and it has to be printed with the same precision — an outline that thickens unevenly reads as cheap immediately.

What we did

Two colourways, two separations. On cream the wordmark prints red with a black outline; on royal it prints red with white, so the outline still separates the letters from the garment. Same artwork, tuned per colour rather than reused blindly.

The back print is a different discipline entirely — a "KINGDOM OF KUSH" scene of Nubian pyramids and palms drawn as engraved cross-hatching. Fine parallel line work is where screen printing either shines or fills in, and it comes down to mesh count and holding the line weight through the whole run.
